Romanoff's Greenhouse Project to help world's poor farmers

Andrew Romanoff, the former Colorado House speaker, is developing a "Greenhouse Project," a center that will house nonprofit, Colorado-based international development groups.

For the past nine months, Romanoff has been a full-time senior adviser to Lakewood-based International Development Enterprises (iDE), a nonprofit that provides irrigation, water storage and technology to poor, small-scale farmers around the world. Those farmers make up many of the world's poor people.

There are about 400 nonprofit collaborative centers around the country, but the Greenhouse Project will be one of the first dedicated to international development.

Romanoff is in negotiations with landlords in central Denver to establish a site

Hunger in our nation is not something we can ignore

Hunger in our nation is not something Congress and the administration can ignore, especially as they look at ways to reduce the federal deficit. We have the resources to solve the problem of hunger in our country, and yet it persists in large part because of a lack of political will. Perhaps it is because people do not understand the pervasiveness of hunger in our nation, or its tremendous toll on our economy and our future.
